Caprivi (near Kongola): Mavunje River Camp/Mashi River Safaris
Fantastic small camp right on the river. It’s rustic at its best: as well as good ablutions, there’s a kitchen area with a dining area overlooking the river, fire/braai area, all really nicely designed. The river safaris are an added bonus.
Caprivi (near Popa Falls): Nunda Safari Lodge
Another great lodge/camp on the river. Lovely pool, great showers, wifi, electricity, braai stand etc.
Tsumeb: Kupferquelle Resort
Large corporate feeling camp. Good facilities, electricity, braai stands etc but not much character. Good place to stay before Etosha.
Etosha National Park: We were surprised at the facilities available inside the park. Each restcamp had electricity, taps and braai stands. We stayed a night each at Namatomi, Halali and Okaukuejo. The standard of restcamp increased with each from ablutions to the waterholes. All very good, but felt somehow a bit wrong, or at least strange, to have such large camps in a national park.
Warmquelle: Ongongo Campsite
Fantastic location next to the Ongongo Waterfall and pool. Definitely need a 4×4 to get to the pitches near the pool. Basic facilities but there are flush toilets and a shower.
Purros: Purros Campsite/Lodge
We actually camped at the lodge next to the campsite as this was full, so we had use of a bungalow’s toilet and shower. Nice site, nice location and good guides for Himba village tours, elephant tours etc.
Wild camping: Riverbed a few kilometres past Okandjambo heading towards Opuwo.
Always great to wild camp under the stars and make a big fire.
Opuwo: Opuwo Country Hotel
Good facilities (the usual braai stand, electricity etc). The infinity pool with an amazing view over the mountains is the highlight. Only slight downside is that the camping area is set away from the hotel (about ten min walk) but this isn’t a major.
Epupa: Epupa Falls Campsite
Fantastic location on the river right by the falls. Good clean sight with good facilities. Only thing missing from the norm is no electricity, but not surprising given the location.
